Year in review.
I haven’t posted for awhile. Let’s blame it on the holidays. But really I’ve just been lazy.
This is the time of year when we think about what happened last year, and look forward to what’s going to happen this year.
So here is 2010. 🙂 The great parts, and the bad parts. There are some parts that some of you won’t understand…and no matter how much I try to explain, it’s probably one of those inside jokes that can’t be explained unless you were there. haha. This post is just going to be filled with memories. 🙂 There will be pictures documenting this year at the bottom.
January- Sleepover at Tori’s! We watched the BCS Championship (While on speaker phone with Abby:), we walked around her yard at 1 a.m. as the snow fell (all .005 millimeters of it.) and made hot chocolate super late at night. Memories: “TORI!!! there’s something black and mysterious in your hallway and I almost tripped over it.”
Snow storm! Yes, it canceled church, but it was still super fun. 🙂
February- This was an amazing month. The youth activity at the beginning of the month. Even at the end of the year, I still remembered February 6th as one of the funnest days of the year. For starters, I broke 100 in bowling. (Which is pretty amazing for me.) Then there was the car ride from the bowling alley to the gym. haha. Funnest car ride ever. I have videos from the gym..and if I can figure out how to post videos on here, I’ll post it at the end of this post. 🙂
Then there was the end of the month. We went to Alabama to see my new nephew born. 🙂
March- Yeahh..this was a pretty boring month, not gonna lie. haha. There was a youth activity at the beginning of the month.
Bible Conference was super fun. 🙂 The Wexlers always come down for Bible Conference, and we have a tradition of going downtown and walking around Falls Park and just hanging out.
April- Insanely awesome month. First we had our achievement tests at church. (This one is for Heidi and Tori.) Memories: (too many to name, but I’m gonna try.) “Tori, stop dropping your plastic carrot on the ground!!!”–
“That’s a REALLY fat pig. What are the lines for?” “I’m drawing the world.” “…on the pig’s stomach..?” “yep!”
“The whale ate explosives. And then…… *Tori and me wait breathless.* THE WHALE EXPLODED!!!!!”
After achievement tests came our trip to Florida! We got to go see all the places I grew up, and they were having an open house for the house I was born in, so we went in and I got to see the room I was born in. 🙂 Very cool. If I ever go back someday, I’m taking a picture.
Then we, (Emily, Abby, Andrew and I) all hung out at that baseball game. The one where we decided we were going to prank a certain somebody, and we never ended up doing it. haha. We still should do it, guys..he totally wouldn’t see it coming THIS late. It’s like a year later.
FIELD DAY. I swear, the only thing that Emily, Abby and I remember from Field Day is “hahahaha, that’s the day you skinned your knees, Abi!” hahaha. It is, indeed. One of the many reasons I have grown to hate the game of kickball.
Sleepover with Emily and Tori. 🙂 “FLOWERS!!!!!!!!!”
Tori: “Look at the pretty flower!” me: “That’s a dandelion, Tori. Commonly known as a weed.” Tori: “shut up! it’s pretty!” hahaha. ♥
May- May was fun. I went to my first ever artist series at the beginning of the month.
There was the graduation party at Bob Jones. 🙂 Abby and I will never forget this one. haha.
The campout! “Aw, guys, if I would’ve known I would’ve brought my disco ball!”
“I have the arm strength of a FLEA.” hahaha. That camp out would’ve been nothing without Margaret. 😉
June- Camp, of course. The bus ride up was filled with, well. Sleep. Lots and looots of sleep. Abby, Emily and I shared 2 seats and we slept on each other from 5 a.m. to the time we stopped for the first time. Got back on the bus, did our devotions, and I fell asleep again until lunch. After lunch, we played a game for a few minutes and then I fell back asleep until the next time we stopped. Then I woke up and it finally hit me that we were on our way to camp, and I started getting hyper. haha. I think the exhaustion had something to do with only getting 45 minutes of sleep the night before. 😉 But I think I’m gonna do the 45 minutes of sleep again next time, because sleeping on the bus makes time FLY. Seriously. lol.
Camp was insanely awesome. I know everyone says that their cabin was the best..but really. My cabin was the best. Really. haha. Kristie, Danielle, Felicia, Maria, Bethany, Emily, me, Elizabeth, Eliza, Katherine and Rachel. We all worked together so well. We were bonded like glue the first night there. We had so much fun as a cabin. Our cheer was undoubtedly the best. Pretty sure everyone was doing it by the end of the week. Uh-huh, don’t lie. You know you did it at least ONCE by the end of the week. Boom snap clap, boom snap clap snap. 😉 Our skit..well. Our skit was DEFINITELY lacking. haha. We had half an hour to prepare..and then there was the fact that we dumped a whole bag of garbage (wet garbage. from the kitchen. *shudders.) all over the skit place before we realized that “Hey. We have to pick up all the garbage, don’t we?” Yeah. We all felt like blondes after that one. hahaha. I couldn’t have asked for a better cabin. The nap times weren’t nap times. They were party times. haha. Emily and I walked down to the bathroom during one of the nap times, and while we were walking back up, all the cabins were completely silent but our cabin was like exploding. hahaha. There were screams and laughter coming from inside. haha. We had so much fun together. 🙂
July- July was the turning point for the whole year. It was the end of one era and the beginning of another. NBS was super fun. Our class was amazing. Brittany, Ruthie, Sarah, Stephanie and I had a BLAST. And the 3 year olds were hilarious. haha. It was a super fun week over all. And the highlight of the week? CRAZY HAT NIGHT. haha. We are definitely doing that again this year. Just in case anyone was wondering. And this time I’m announcing it on Facebook AND Buzz. So start digging up your favorite hats. 😉 Even though it’s like 6 months away. haha.
Cola Wars was fun. I have hated Spoke Tackle from the very beginning. Seriously. I abhor it. It’s literally the worst. At least I thought it was. But I have to tell you guys this. Because I just remembered it, and it made me die laughing. So on Friday night, the night we play spoke tackle, Abby, Emily and I were standing by the middle level doors, and I was like “Guys, I would seriously rather get a horrible injury than play spoke tackle right now.” and Emily was like “OH WE SHOULD DO THAT!” and I was like “Do what?” and she was like “You kick my ankle, and I’ll kick yours.” and I was like “Um.” and she was like “If we do it hard enough, we will be “injured” and our ankles will definitely hurt..and we won’t have to play, right?” and I was like “DO not kick my ankle.” and she was like “Fine. Kick mine.” and I was like “okay..” so I kicked it SUUUPER hard and she was like “OWWWWWWWW!” and everyone was looking at us, and I was like “Hey you asked for it.” hahahaha. It was so funny. She ended up playing the game anyway..but it was still like the most hilarious moment of the week. But anyway. I don’t know why I hated spoke tackle so much..but I played it that night and really enjoyed it. I didn’t place ALL the time, but I did place some of the time..and it was just fun. 🙂 I can’t wait to play it again.
August- August was a pretty bad month. We had the youth activity at the beginning of the month, but it wasn’t the best activity I’ve ever been to. I dunno why. I just didn’t enjoy it very much. Maybe it was because it was like 400 degrees outside. haha.
One happy thing about August- Festival ensemble rehearsals started! Woot! 😀 They were super fun. 🙂
September- We went to Alabama for Labor Day weekend and had an absolute BLAST. I got to meet all of my sister’s church and hang out with them for about 12 hours over all. Very fun weekend. 🙂
The INITIATION! woot! Okay, this was my first activity where it was pouring down rain. And it was one of the more memorable ones. It was such a blast. The work part was super hard..and I’ll tell you why. I was on kitchen crew. I know.. “oooh, so hard”. But it was. Okay, the first half an hour was easy. I just stood there and chopped up tomatoes and cantelope. Easy. But then Mrs. Dahlhausen told me to go put a thermos of water outside..and I was like “It’s pouring down rain. Do they need water?” and she was like “Yes, you get thirsty even when it’s raining.” so I was like.. “okay..” so I asked Pastor Rush where he wanted me to set it up, and he was like “Put it up in the warehouse.” and I was like “You are aware that there’s only 5 people working in the warehouse..and no one else will see the water?” and he was like “It’s okay. Just put it up there.” and so I did. But in order to do so, I had to carry a 60 pound thermos of water from the middle level to the warehouse. In the pouring rain. I’m pretty sure I pulled EVERY muscle in my back. Plus by the time I got there I was literally soaked. So I’m standing there totally out of breath, completely soaked to the skin, and Ben, who was working in the warehouse, was like “Why on earth did you bring that up here? We’re not thirsty.” and I was like “I know this. But I can’t argue with youth workers.” and so he helped me set up the table and everything. My back was literally sore for a week. haha. But besides the fact that the work part was hard, the rest of the activity was beast. I got on an amazing team and we played some really cool games. 🙂 And it was raining. Drizzling, but still. I love it when it rains. 🙂
October- TREASURE HUNT. Oh yes. 😉 The treasure hunt was so much fun. For the work part, Ally, Hannah and I walked around the church and washed windows. And we had a blast. haha. The treasure hunt was amazing..my team worked together so well. 🙂 AND WE WON. booyah.
Dry run. Well. October 25th. October 25th was very awesome. 😉 I got a haircut in the morning that I had been wanting for awhile, Speak Now came out after 3 looong months of waiting, and THE DRY RUN WAS AWESOME. We performed and then everyone else performed and it was just as usual, but afterwards we all hung out for like 45 minutes and it was a blast. 🙂
November- November was amazing from beginning to end. Festival started out November for me. I already did a whole post on this, so I won’t go over it again..but it was amazing. Exhausting, but still amazing.
The football activity. I was on the Scarlett Screamers. We were all trying to come up with a name and nothing sounded right, and then Bethany Chism was like “SCARLETT SCREAMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and we were all like “YEAHHH!” haha. So it stuck. 🙂 The capture the flag in the dark was so much fun, too.
December- December is my absolute favorite month of the year. Cmon. Birthday + Christmas + cold weather + NO SCHOOL. It can’t get better than that.
I had my birthday party on the 11th, and that was the best. Seriously, if you ever throw a birthday party, don’t go for the cliche 2 hour thing. Go for the 7 hour one. 😉 From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. we had the funnest time. We played Sardines outside, and Heidi proved to all of us that, yes, one round of Sardines CAN last for 55 minutes. hahaha. Beast hider.
On December 16th, I babysat 5 kids for 9 hours straight. You don’t know the meaning of exhausting until you do that. And they were all under the age of 5. Seriously. I came home in this coma-like thing. haha.
CHRISTMASSSSS! Christmas was great. We slept in till 11 a.m. as usual, woke up and had this breakfast-lunch combination that we always have, we read Luke 2, prayed and then opened presents. 🙂 It was really great. Our last Christmas with Andrew, though. 😦 Next year he’ll be all married and moved away. And Christmas will be on a SUNDAY. How messed up is that? haha.
2010 had so many good memories and so many bad memories…but I think the good outweighed the bad at the end. It was an amazing year, but I am glad to finally move on from it. I can’t wait for 2011 to show it’s awesomeness. So far it’s not done a bad job. I mean, a trip to New Orleans PLUS a freakishly huge snow storm that Greenville hasn’t seen for 22 years? Good job, 2011. Can’t wait to see what else you’ve got up your sleeve. 🙂 And that’ll start with my new niece, Natalie, being born in exactly 2 weeks from today. 🙂
