What would you do?

As I write, the 18th miner in the collapsed Chile mine is making his way up to the surface.

For those of you who don’t watch the news a lot, or just somehow missed this…back in the beginning of August, 33 miners in Chile were trapped approximately 2257 feet below the surface. All of them survived, but had to wait 70 days for the drill to reach them. Rescue attempts finally began last night, and 17 of the men have made it to the top.

Now to be a miner…you have to have guts. I mean, there’s no way in heck I would ever go below the surface of the earth. Of course, you’re talking to the most claustrophobic person on the planet. But seriously. To go down half a mile just to mine copper and gold? These guys are pretty fearless. And I bet they know every time they go down that there’s a chance they may not come back up.

But what would you do the moment it hit you that you may not have the chance to live again? The moment it exploded while all those men were down there. I bet after the shock was over, they started thinking about all the stuff that they wish they would’ve done.

A few months ago, my best friend and I were emailing back and forth..and I brought up the question “If your life flashed before you, what would you wish you would’ve done?” And we started discussing stuff that we would do. Some of it was totally unrealistic..but a lot of it was very realistic. And it got me thinking…if it’s so realistic..why do we wait? Why am I waiting to get out there and be more of a witness for my Savior, when I can do it RIGHT NOW? Why are we waiting to forgive people, and get to know people, when we can do it RIGHT NOW? What’s the point? There is no point. It’s just stupid.

All 33 of the men now have a 2nd chance to live their life. They’re probably going to be doing a lot of stuff that for a few moments they thought they would never have the chance to do. We have that chance. You never know when God is going to take you home, so why wait? live fearless.

I stayed up till 3 last night watching it.. it is so amazing. a bunch of the miners are like redoing their vows and like all this other stuff. One of them said that he is glad it happened to him because it changes how he thinks about life! 😀

great post, hon. so, SO very true. we take the time we have now for granted, and we don’t think about how we could use each day for Jesus and His glory. it’s a convicting thought! thanks for sharing! i miss you so very much. ❤
